There is a great deal of confusion around the August 31st Deadline for completing transition and penalty relief. Our team has actively supported extending these deadlines, but have also advised clients to keep moving forward with their CUP, MUP or ZP applications irrespective of the August 31st date. We have only submitted penalty relief forms for clients who do NOT have qualifying zoning. This is the direction we were given by the County Planning Department.
Another serious misunderstanding is penalty relief itself. Penalty relief ONLY applies to land use penalties. If you have unpermitted structures, grading violations, unpermitted tree removal, fire or hazardous materials code violations penalty relief does NOT apply.
